there is something i do not understand about their rules. When you sign up you need to bring every single document signed in person. when i asked what the procedure would be to close an account, they said “you call us, we close it” but that does not sound as formally closed. it sounds like “we tell you is closed, then we decide what to do with your account on our own”.
anybody any idea?

i called them,
they answered that they do not issue any written proof of account closure when you close the account. but if you do not receive a written proof from them, then by their agreement your account is formally open. this company is amazing, they keep trying to look good and keep looking the opposite

the worst thing is that always by contract, WHATEVER happens in your account is your own responsibility. Someone steals the password and uses your account ? you pay. As far as they do not send a written confirmation of termination of the agreement, the account is OPEN!
Note that there is NO official procedure to close an account beside their “call us, we close it”. They don’t close it formally in that way and everything it happens in there in the years after is responsibility of the account holder, again, as far as they do not send a written confirmation of account closure. It’s in the agreement you signed (by hand, not by phone…).
If someone breaches in their security system… and is not such a remote possibility when we talk about computer security it is clear that security in computers is still a dream. But independently from that, there should be no reticence.
Even worse, if you ask them for a written confirmation of account closure: THEY REFUSE to send it.
This is serious.

I remember there was a “Close an Account” option on myQuestrade.com
it is not there anymore.
So, closing an account requires a call in?
Damn, I want to close my spouse’s account and my sister’s. They do not like to deal with these financial matters.
It used to be fun at Questrade, now it is just a pain in the neck.

Section 1.37 of their agreement:
“This Agreement will continue in force until terminated by you as acknowledged in writing by our officer or until written notice of termination by us has been delivered to you.”
They keep refusing to close the accounts, they close the access to the platforms which is also misleading but they keep deceiving about terminating accounts.
That’s how Questrade claims to be a quality company???. that’s it.
